Alan gets 4th place in the Rapidplay Championships
17-year old Alan Merry scored 7½/11 to finish in 4th place in the English Rapidplay Championships, held last weekend in High Wycombe. Games were played at the rate of 20 minutes plus an increment of 10 seconds per move.
The 25-strong field included two GMs and two IMs. Alan drew with the eventual winner, GM Danny Gormally, who scored nine points. After seven rounds Alan was joint leader on 5½ points but then suffered two losses before winning his final two games.
He finished with an excellent grading performance of 231.
Well played Alan, congratulations! Danny is a very tough GM to play against.
