Ipswich A win Division 1
Although there’s still one match to play, Ipswich A, by beating Sudbury 3½-½ on Tuesday, have secured the Suffolk League Division 1 title. With 25 points, they now stand 6½ points clear of the chasing pack, and cannot therefore be caught. As a team, they have lost only five of the 36 games played. Here’s the team, celebrating their victory (and that’s Michael’s second pint):
Amazingly, the four-man team of Les Jones, Steve Gregory, Shaun Munson and Michael Clapham has played in every game:
Board | Name | Grade | Won | Drawn | Lost | Points |
---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
1 | Shaun Munson | 206 | 6 | 3 | 0 | 7½ |
2 | Steve Gregory | 174 | 4 | 2 | 3 | 5 |
3 | Michael Clapham | 158 | 6 | 2 | 1 | 7 |
4 | Les Jones | 148 | 3 | 5 | 1 | 5½ |
Shaun Munson has a grading performance of 217 over the nine games. Michael Clapham‘s wins include one by default.
Behind Ipswich A, there are three teams on 18½ points. So for Manningtree, Ipswich C and Bury St Edmunds A, there’s still all to play for if they want to finish as runners-up.
