The World starts today

Down in Durban, South Africa, the World Youth Chess Championships begin today.   Ten English players, including Manningtree’s Adam Taylor, will be competing against the World’s best juniors.

Adam’s section, the Under 16 boys, consists of 100 players and Adam is seeded 45th. The section includes five International Masters and 11 FIDE Masters (how do they manage it at such a young age?).   The top-rated Under 16, an IM from India, is rated 2496…

The Opening Ceremony is today, with the first round starting immediately afterwards at 16.00 local time (15.00 British Summer Time).   The Congress website is here, with Adam’s section here on Chess-Results.com.   You can also watch the top games in the Under 16s on Chessbomb.   We’ll update you on Adam’s results as the event progresses.
