Avengers 1st Team Cruise to Victory against Top-seeds Gonzago

In R4 of the 4NCL Online Tournament, the 1st team defeated top-seeds Gonzago by a comfortable 3-1 margin.

The match began in sensational fashion when GM Sebastien Maze gifted Martin a couple of pieces on move 6.  A “fat-fingered error” which could only occur in on-line chess?  Perhaps.  But as a certain G. Kasparov said: “Chess is not Skittles!”
Gonzago never looked capable of recovering from this blow.
FM Tom O’Gorman tried much, much too hard to make something from nothing against Panagiotis’s no-nonsense defence: but ended up with less than nothing.
FM Henry Li struggled to retain equality against Paul’s thoroughly prepared Riga Variation: but eventually succumbed to Paul’s superior technique in a R v B+N endgame.
Only Ireland’s number 1 junior, FM Tarun Kanyamarala, punched his weight for Gonzago: outplaying Ed in a Sicilian Rossilimo, and earning his team a consolation point.

This leaves the Avengers joint top of their group with Surbiton, who we play in R5.
